WELCOME TO DISK MANAGER MAC'S IDE BENCHMARK™ SOFTWARE!
IDE Benchmark™ is a utility that will determine if your system would benefit from the use of Disk Manager Mac's® driver for IDE devices. IDE Benchmark™ shows just one of the many features offered by Disk Manager Mac®, a fully featured installation utility for IDE and SCSI devices. If your system shows an increase in data transfer rate, you can follow the instructions on the screen to purchase the retail version of Disk Manager Mac® software.
HOW TO RUN THE IDE BENCHMARK™ SOFTWARE
IDE Benchmark™ will only run on Macintosh's that contain an IDE drive such as the Quadra 630. To run IDE Benchmark™, simply double click on the IDE Benchmark™ icon and then click on the Start button. If your Macintosh does not contain an IDE drive, a message stating this fact will be displayed and the program will simply terminate.
Note: Although IDE Benchmark™ will run on a PowerBook 150, you will not be able to take advantage of the speed increase by using Disk Manager Mac®. This is due to the fact that the PowerBook 150 has a limitation of not loading a driver from the IDE disk. But, you will still be able to partition the drive to create separate storage areas.
HOW DOES DISK MANAGER MAC® SOFTWARE WORK?
Disk Manager Mac® software makes use of a new technology in most new IDE (AT interface) hard drives called read-and-write-multiple mode (also known as multiple block size or MBS). By using this new technique, overall data transfer rate (measured in kilo-bytes per second, KB/Sec) can be increased up to fifty percent or more.
First the IDE Benchmark™ software will determine if your hard drive supports read-and-write-multiple mode. IDE Benchmark™ will then run a series of non-destructive benchmarks on several multiple block size (MBS) values, and I/O sizes from .5K to 64K, to determine which MBS value will give your hard drive the best overall data transfer rate. When the benchmarks have been completed, a chart showing a before-and-after comparison of your hard drive's performance will be displayed.
Disk Manager Mac® software may increase your performance even if the drive does not support Multiple Block Size.
